Msunduzi and Ncome Museums is an agency of the Department of Arts and Culture situated in Pietermaritzburg and Ncome (Nquthu). The museum is looking for suitably qualified individuals to fill the following positions:



SALARY: R113 721.55 p.a


  • Matric or equivalent
  • Office Administration certificate and/or Professional Reception and Personal Assistant qualification
  • 1 – 2 years of relevant experience
  • Fluency in English and isiZulu
  • Excellent telephone etiquette
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be proficient in handling office equipment including multiple lined switchboard, printers, photocopy  ,machine, etc
  • Ability to handle cash
  • Computer literate, MS Word and Excel
  • Drivers licence would be an added advantage

Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills, effective speaking, listening skills and strong customer care.

Key performance areas:

  • Answer incoming telephone calls and forward to relevant personnel
  • Welcome visitors/guests/members professionally, determine nature and purpose of visit
  • Direct visitors/guests/members to appropriate destination
  • Monitor visitors’ access and issue visitor tickets
  • Manage museum curio shop and ensure all sales are recorded
  • Record booking for museum facilities, i.e. Hall, Church and Auditorium
  • Receive ordered museum goods and stamp invoices
  • Collect, sort, distribute and prepare correspondence , mail, messages and courier deliveries
  • Reconcile  all cash weekly
  • Ensure cleanliness and tidiness at the reception area
